How many of you watch ‘Heir Hunters’ to see if you are a relative of a recently deceased person who died without writing a Will?
According to that programme last year was another winner for the Governments coffers. Over £18m was recovered from estates where the deceased persons had not written a Will and died intestate. Juat imagine the amount of hard work and effort that went into building up those estates and then for the sake of writing a Will all of it went to the Government. The sad thing is that probably most of the estates had already suffered one or two types of taxation before finishing up as the estate of a deceased person. Is that what they really would have wanted -to see it all go back to the Government instead of to relatives, friends or good causes and charities?
The writing of a simple Will could prevent all that and much benefit could be passed on to people and places where it would do most good. So if you have not yet written a Will make a real effort to complete one in the near future and make sure someone other than Government benefits from your assets after you have gone.
