A new study from Queen’s University Belfast indicates that Women are 40% more likely to go into Care Homes than Men. The researchers followed over 20,000 couples over the age of 65 for six years in order to produce these findings. It also indicated that people were far more likely to go into a home once they were living alone. These findings would seem to support a previous report produced last year by the British Geriatric Society which estimated that of people in care 75% were women.
Commenting on this David Dexter Of Lincoln Wills said that ‘Never has it been more important for married couples to make Wiils which protect the property in which they live from being utilised to meet Care fees by Local Authorities /Care Homes. A Property Protection Trust Will does ensure that children and loved ones can inherit the home even if the surviving parent has to go into care. A properly drawn up Will is a very important planning tool to protect inheritance for children and grandchildren. Without such a Will family assets ,built up over a lifetime of work and saving are at risk’
