Having to pay for his own dementia care fees a retired RAF officer died almost penniless last month in a care home in Wales. His family had been forced to sell his home approximately six years earlier in order to meet the fees of up to £2800 per month.

Reported in the Daily Mail 10th October 2012 were the facts of the fight put up by his family for the last six years over the lack of support from Government on the issue .

The Officer’s wife had died in 2002 and obviously had either not made a Will or made a Will leaving everything to her husband.

This situation could have been avoided if his wife had incorporated a Property Protection Trust in her Will . The family would then not have had to sell the property until the Officers death and at worse would have secured one half of it’s value for inheritance by the family.

Property Protection is a vital part of Inheritance planning . A person’s Will is one of the most important documents that is necessary to ensure the onward transmission of wealth.
